Republican Obstructionism

There is less than a month until our nation's fiscal cliff is reached. While some would have us believe that reaching the fiscal cliff will be the end of the world, in reality, it will barely put a band-aid on our severed limb of debt and spending problems. The problems were not a result of a single presidency. The debt and current spending deficits are the result of decades of spending more money than is taken in by our federal government. It has been exacerbated by two recent wars and the worst economic recession in 70 years.

Could be treasonous, you say, greek.Do you really believe articles of impeachment have not been brought forth because Barry is being given one more chance to do the right thing? Do you, greek, hold that no republican votes on tha aca makes the case for treason? Of course it doesn't. Disapproval of something doesn't qualify it as a treasonable act.

assessing the website. It will probably wreck the US economy. Back on topic. Boehner said he would not allow the country to default over this but the dems already said they were willing to allow default just to make the republicans look bad.

OK mod. I have tried to narrow down the list of why the passing of the ACA could be seen as treasonous. FACT - No republicans voted for it. All dems voted it is. Republicans voted as their constituents requested them. Not the dems. The townhall meetings proved that. The elderly were close to fisticuffs over it. That is until AARP mistakenly endorsed it. Pelosi and Reid made back door promises to senators to win their vote. You scratch my back here I will vote for your project next time. Pelosi said "we have to pass it to see what is in it" WOW.. The sumpreme court mistakenly ruled it was not a violation of the constitution to REQUIRE citizens to buy something. John Roberts ruled it was a tax. PPPHHHHTTTTT. More under the table shenannigans there!!! It was a lie!! It is not affordable!! It does not offer more choices!! Doctors are dropping out !!! It has grown into an immense document of law mumbo jumbo that no one understands. The website program is flawed. Problems accessi

Gee, greek, please explain how the aca is treasonous. And by the way, like mitch mcconnell said, "there is no education in the second kick of a mule".

That is right IThink. Bush went the correct route by sending it thru congress as the constitution requires. Dictator Obama was thinking about attacking Syria with an Executive Order of his own liking. It was an afterthought that he asked congress because he thought he could blame the republicans as$es if it went badly. And mythravere, I am not saying the Bush era was anything special. It wasn't. BUT he wasnt running the country like he was the only policymaker in it like Obummer is and getting his democratic party together to ram laws thru so we can see what the he11 they say later. No matter what the consequences!!! As Pelosi and Reid did the ACA --i.e. ---Affordable (well we are seeing not so****affordable) Care (if you can find a caregiver that aint dropped out) Act (of treason).....

You're right, thegreek. Jay Rockefeller and the democrats voted for the war. Their support is taped and recorded and they lie when they deny it.

Blame Bush is old and worn out. The democrats own the wars now, along with the fiasco obamacare.

thegreek

Again. Congress, including Kerry and Hillary BOTH voted FOR the IRAQ war as much as you would love to place the blame solely on Bush and Cheney!!

"Someone should tell Kendall that George Orwell is not the personal property of sore-losers on the right."

Never said he was Fred. It would seem that based on your many posts about the topic...it seems you are offended that anyone would use Orwell's writings in a way you do not agree with.

There has always been arguments over budgets and raising the debt. The government has shut down 17times or more in recent history and as far as getting along, the demoncrats held bush hostage over funding the troops vs domestic spending increases when they held Congress after 2006. Don't remember Bush ever saying they held a gun to his head or to head if the American people though. I truly wonder if a sane person will ever run for President for you would have to be crazy to want the job.

Who knows at what point our debt level will reach the “breaking point”? Who wants to find out?

Not me! That ‘s why we should work to reduce our debt now. But we’re not effectively working to reduce our debt because our disdain for one another makes us hurl insults instead of cooperating to do what almost all of us agree needs to be done.

Let us put aside our tribal warfare and be sober-minded, in all things showing ourselves to be a pattern of good works; speaking words that cannot be condemned, so that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of us.

If we don’t start cooperating, we’re finished as a sovereign country. A house divided against itself cannot stand.

Speaking for myself,I understand our economy is driven by the middle class, which has been depressed by the downturn in the recent years. The trade deficit is being reduced......., the economy is growing, and the opportunity to negatively exploit the financial markets has also been somewhat reduced. How many millions a day is this shutdown poop costing our economy? And don't call me Shirley ..... (-:

random- your quote of Barry's remark, in 2006,is quite accurate,...... however you neglect to acknowledge that the quote reflects the absence of a funding policy for two military actions, tax cuts, and a prescription drug assistance program. And,we should feel fortunate these debits came on the heels of a budget surplus.

its amazing how the debt limit was always raised with no hassle, by both parties. yet suddenly, after Pres. Dolemite was elected, mysteriously the debt became a problem.

yeah,*****democrats. why couldn't they just leave our debts off the bill so it'd look like our spending was small? you know, like the republicans do.

In 2006 NPR reported: "The federal budget deficit will hit a record $422 billion this year, according to new projections from the Congressional Budget Office. The CBO also predicts $2.3 trillion in new debt will be run up by 2014." They didn't expect the Democrats taking over spending and raising the debt more than three times that estimate. How fondly we miss the old record, while fearing how high will it go.

"The fact that we're here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means 'The buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit."Senator Barack Obama, 2006. At the time the debt limit was raised to $9trillion. That amount has almost doubled in the past seven years with another trillion waiting in the wings to be borrowed as soon as it's made available. President Obama now regrets those remarks but I regret we are stuck with him.
