Is the economy getting better under Obama? The answer is YES!

Generally, everyone is concerned about the economy and the health of business. Indeed, unemployment is too high. But in fact, the Dow Jones Average on Jan 16, 2009, when Obama was inaugurated, was 8281. Today, it is over 11,020. That is an increase of 33% in less than two years. During the Bush Administration, from January 16, 2001 to January 16 2009, the DJIA went DOWN from 10525 to 8281, a LOSS of over 27%. The DJIA is the one of the best measures of the overall economic health of America's largest businesses. In fact, this indicator has GROWN in 2 years of Obama, whereas it DECLINE over 8 years of Bush. The market itself is telling us what we know: the Bush policies were BAD ECONOMICS. Business is now getting better with the end of deceptive Bush economic policies and 8 years of nonsense.

Americans are nearly twice as likely to say they've gotten worse off as better off under Barack Obama's presidency, a prosperity shortfall resembling the one that cost the first President Bush his job in 1992. But Mitt Romney has yet to seize the opportunity fully, with weaknesses on personal as well as professional qualities that are keeping the 2012 race a close one.

Only 16 percent of Americans in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll say their financial situation has improved since Obama took office, while 30 percent say they're worse off. It's one reason the public disapproves of the president's handling of the economy by 55-42 percent.

"Last year, the International Monetary Fund predicted that China's economy would overtake that of the U.S. in five years." (Posted 3 days ago.)

In the period since THAT posting, the proxy states of Iran and North Korea have moved three days closer to cobbling together nuclear-tipped missiles to be launched from Iran into the continental United States.

The guy we have in the WH IS AN IDIOT! When will the rest of you WAKE UP?

On appealing to emotions like fear and hatred:

The Elaboration Likelihood Model developed by social scientists Richard Petty and John Cacioppo, et.al., which has been supported by research, posits that attitudes formed as a result of emotion, compared to attitudes formed by cognition, are

1. less apt to be acted upon,

2. not as strong,

3. less easily recalled from memory, and

4. less resistant to counter-arguments.

It seems to me that if a voter supports a politician because the voter responds mostly to fear, the voter is more connected to the fear than the politician’s policies. Then, if another politician can convince the voter with appeals to cognitive thinking, the voter can easily be persuaded to support the second politician.

Bush and Huckabee may realize this.

Earlier I pointed out that Jeb Bush lamented the Republican candidates’ tendency to persuade voters by stirring up the voters’ fear and emotion.

Mike Huckabee said much the same thing.

“’There’s just such a toxic atmosphere right now, specifically in the Republican Party. And I would love to say that it’s gonna be all about ideas and solutions,’former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said in an interview on Israeli television. ‘Unfortunately, a lot of it is about just being able to say, I’m more angry at the Obama administration than somebody else.’”

people's lives as poker chips, secured a bailout from the Feds, and continue to pursue lavish lifestyles while (if there was any justice in the world) they should be in the slammer ... Mr. Engelke is merely parroting the crap from FOX & other "pity the poor billionaire" pundits that try to pin the blame for the collapse of the housing-bubble on its victims ...

Dan Quayle??? ... This place is becoming the retirement site for passe' G.O.P. "superstars" ... Whatever! There is a silly letter in today's 2/26 NEWS and SENTINEL from somebody called Alvin Enge#@! in Creston, WVa. calling me "clueless" for saying in a LTTE that "Wall Street caused the 2008 economic meltdown" ... AlvIIIIN! While Cavuto & Hannity & probably WLTP (Witless Lame Tea Party) Radio are fond of putting the entire blame on Chris Dodd & Barney Frank & members of the Senate Finance Committe that enabled Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae to offer "designed to fail" home mortgages, the ultimate failure of thse loans was accomplished by Wall Street outfits like Chase-Morgan, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Goldman-Sachs, Morgan-Stanley, and Lehman Brothers who offered "easy" terms to homebuyers, knowing all along that ever-increasing interest rates would make the value of homes less than what they owed ... IOW, they used

Well, IThink, I am not so sure I read Harry's comment as being 'approval' of Jeb Bush (although there is no doubt in my mind that he is smarter than his brother, but so is the average organgatan).

I rather think wise Harry is just agreeing with Jeb's characterization of the modern Republican party as being the part of nitwits that are about little more than fear and emotion.

And I can tell you that from my perspective, Harry couldn't be more right about that! We Republicans aren't the folks we used to be, no doubt about it. I may have had trouble spelling tough words like 'potatoe' and keeping myself off the golf course when I should have been working, but this collection of whackos running for the Republican nomination now make me look like a genius!

Glad you approve of Jeb Bush, harry. He is a member of a very wonderful and charitable American family. Congratulations for speaking kind words about a great American.

When the impending collapse of General Motors and Chrysler was threatened in 2008-2009, the CEOs of these companies went to Washington and begged the federal government to save them. Both Bush and Obama ignored strong Republican complaints, and offered 'bailout' money.

It is now four years later and Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich are all claiming that the Obama policies were "failures".

However, there are NOW 1.45 million people who are working in GOOD PAYING JOBS as a direct result of that $80 billion bailout, according to the nonpartisan Center for Automotive Research. That includes JOBS at these companies and associated businesses (from suppliers to dealerships).

Michigan’s unemployment level is at its lowest level in three years. G.M. is again the world’s biggest automaker. Both GM and the "new Chrysler" (under Fiat) are profitable. The government is getting its money back. The American people are getting a good deal.

Ithink’s quote from Peggy Noonan contains only emotion and opinion. It lacks evidence and reasoned analysis. It’s the very kind of discourse that Jeb Bush says may hurt the eventual Republican nominees’s chances in the general election.

According to Jake Gibson at Fox News, Bush said yesterday, “I used to be a conservative and I watch these debates and I'm wondering, I don't think I've changed, but it's a little troubling sometimes when people are appealing to people's fears and emotion rather than trying to get them to look over the horizon for a broader perspective and that's kind of where we are. I think it changes when we get to the general election. I hope.”

politics.blogs.foxnews.co m/2012/02/23/jeb-bush-2012-gop-field-appealing-peoples-fears

If Jeb Bush would rather “look over the horizon for a broader perspective” than “(appeal) to people’s fears and emotion,” no wonder he refused to run for President in the current Republican Party.

Kendall, Air Force One is a bit big for the deck of a carrier.

Kendall78

Ithink- one thing to keep in mind that Bush did that cost a lot and was just for show. He flew in a Navy S-3B Viking to give a speech on the USS Abraham Lincoln. Come on, that was an expense that was not needed but it's not that big of a deal. Neither is what Obama has done.

So Sean Penn makes a million dollars to "act" in a movie while the guy that holds the camera is on welfare. Thats just not fair.

ITHINK, Socialism os not for the socialist but rather for the masses. Those that push us in that direction will live higher on the hog as time goes by as will those they deem WORTHY. EX( ever hear the left talk about the GREED of Hollywood?) Millions of dollars just to act in a movie?? Thats pure greed but its LEFTIST supporting greed which is deemed ok.
