How "representative" is apparent nominee Willard "Mitt" Romney of the Republican base that voted for Santorum, Newt, Ron Paul, etc.?

As we watch the Mittster pull out his Etch-A-Sketch" and attempt to erase all the silly rightwing stuff he's said to pander to loonies like IThink & Absurd, we notice that his time to reinvent himself once again is shrinking ... Besides that, by now everyone is pretty familiar with his "Thurston Howell III" image as an out-of-touch "trickle-down" promoter who says things like "I like to fire people", and "I don't care about poor people" ... That image alone is going to be tough to erase - but how will he court the crazies around here?
