NASA launches 2.5 billion dollar rover to study life on Mars

I understand people want to cut spending and try to save money but I don't think we should be doing so by defunding NASA. 2.5 billion is less than 1% of national defense & less than 1% of the stimulus package. In today's environment, what can be more important than the hope and inspiration that the search for life on other plants provides. God speed Mars Science Laboratory (nickname Curiosity).
