Dortha Mildred (Miller) Via, 94, of Slate, W.Va., passed away at Carehaven early on Aug. 25, 2014.
She was born May 6, 1920, one of eight children, born to the late John and Ethel Miller of Slate Creek.
Dortha was a member of Slate Church of Christ. She worked at Viscose and Ames, and then retired from the Mattress Factory. She loved to quilt for others, read, grow flowers in her garden and listen to gospel music.
She is survived by one son, Larry Croy (Karen) of Slate, W.Va.; one grandson, Kevin Croy of Slate and his fiancee, Deanna Abbott of Parkersburg; one daughter-in-law, Gerry Croy of Slate, W.Va.; two sisters, Edith Edman of Pettyville, W.Va., and Lena Bryant of Belpre; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Woodrow Wilson Croy; her second husband, George Via; one son, John W. Croy; one infant daughter, Carolyn Croy; four sisters, Hazel and Flossie Miller, Grace Alta Martin and Juanita Maxine Tuttle; and one brother, William Arthur "Bill" Miller.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Charles Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
