Robert I. "Tom" Longwell, 74, of Parkersburg, passed away Aug. 22, 2014, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Nov. 4, 1939, in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late Bert and Virgie Miller Longwell.
Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Kaiser Aluminum with 29 1/2 years of service. He enjoyed yard work and his tractor, vacationing and spending time with his family.
He was survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia Anne Blackwell Longwell; three children, Kim Hamilton (Terry) of Parkersburg, Debra Daugherty (Bob) of Rockport, W.Va., and Lori McIntyre (John) of Parkersburg; one sister, Maxine Custer of Parkersburg; two sisters-in-law, Josephine Longwell and Dottie Longwell; five grandchildren, Amber Watkins, Beth Watkins, Ashley Hill (Cam) and their children, Brayden, Ethan, Coleton and Weston, Brittany Terrell (Joe) and their children, Ellie and Kaden, Mercedes Fullerton (Seth) and their daughter, Emmy; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Imogene Joy, Betty Bacorn and infant sister, Terri Longwell; two brothers, James Longwell and John Longwell; and one great-granddaughter, Zoey.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street, south Parkersburg, with longtime friend the Rev. David Spence officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. There will be a gathering and meal for family and friends at VFW Post 1212 on Garfield Avenue after the service.
