Michael O. Mills, 63, of Parkersburg, departed this life on Aug. 2, 2014. While he lost his battle with cancer, he is now pain free.
He was born Oct. 18, 1950, in St. Bernardino, Calif., a son of Alvie and Olive Geisel Mills, both of Parkersburg.
Mike was active in Cub Scouts and served as a Cub Master for many years. He retired from the 463rd Army Unit as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He was always willing to help friends and neighbors, making a big impact on all of those around him. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and active with the Methodist Men. He also was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of American Legion Post 15. He was a big NASCAR Fan and attended many races.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patty A. (Fleming) Mills; son, Michael "Shawn" Mills; by special sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Connie and Greg Brown, Mike and Niki Fleming and Ruth and Ernest Fleming; many aunts and uncles, including a special aunt and uncle, Abe and Paula Mills; many other relatives and friends; and his dogs, who were his buddies, JD, Astro and Peanut.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bob Riffle officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Military Rites by the West Virginia Army National Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
