Doris Jean Cummings, 89, of Parkersburg, died Aug. 2, 2014, at Camden Clark Medical Center.
She was born July 12, 1925, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Herbert and Alice Keenan Affolter.
She retired from the West Virginia State Police as a detachment secretary after 29 years of service and then continued to work for the Family Fitness Center for nine years. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, enjoyed giving care packages to her family and friends, and especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, Patrick (Susie) Cummings of Vienna, Michael (Marcy) Cummings of Vonore, Tenn., and Susan (Don) McCauley of Washington, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren, Thomas Cummings, Natalia Cummings, Eva Braniff, Casey Fuller, Nathan Cummings, Todd Cummings, Brian Cummings, Carrie LaDue, Emily McCauley and Angela Schlueter; 21 great-grandchildren with one expected in November; sister-in-law, Maria Cummings; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Joseph Cummings in 1960; son, Thomas Joseph Cummings Jr.; two sisters, Annabelle Edwards and Billie Desmond; one brother, Ralph Affolter; and half brother, Ray Yates.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Peterson as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
