Dorothy Naomi Wilcox Gates

Dorothy Naomi Wilcox Gates passed away Aug. 2, 2014, at Wyngate Senior Living in Parkersburg, under the loving care of the Wyngate Staff, Housecalls Hospice, and surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 7, 1922, in Wood County, a twin daughter of the late William E. and Clara Johnson Wilcox.

She was a proud graduate of the PHS class of 1940, an avid participant in the planning of her class reunions, and a member of the 1940 girl's luncheons. She was a valued 26-year employee of A.W. Cox's and an active member of the Cox's girls get togethers. She retired from Lang's. She went on to volunteer for many years with her sisters in the Gift Shop on Blennerhassett Island. Dorothy never passed up an opportunity to travel via bus or Cruise. One of the highlights of her life was attending the Twins Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio.

She married Lloyd Chester Gates on Feb. 2, 1944, and together they raised four children, James (Eleanor) Gates and Linda (Larry) Cunningham, both of Parkersburg, Ronald (Louise) Gates of Milford, Ohio, and daughter, Jean (Mike) Turrell of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren, David and Darren Gates and their wives, Loren, Lee and Lisa (Roberts) Cunningham and spouses, and Eric (Donna) and Todd (Tonya Burke) Turrill; 10 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Clara Wilcox Wilson of Marietta, Ohio, Ruth Wilcox Flinn of Redlands, Calif., and Eleanor Wilcox of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; and her twin sister, Doris W. Wilcox Walker.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with Pastor Larry Walker officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
