Doris Jane Ball

Doris Jane Ball passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014, at the Colonial Place in Elkins. She was born on May 9, 1923 in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late George T. and Doris Jane Kootz Meyers. Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Clark Ball, whom she married on Feb. 2, 1947.

Mrs. Ball was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and of Mountain State Business College. She helped with the Red Cross during World War II, was a Past High Priestess of the Hathor Court, Past President of PHP Club, Past President of Mu Gamma Chapter Alpha Iota Society of Parkersburg, an Honorary State Member of PTA at McKinley School in Parkersburg, a three time Girl Scout Leader, Past President of the Fairmont Women's Club, and served for 10 years as an officer of the North Central District of the WV Federation of Women's Clubs, including a year as President. She also held various offices at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Parkersburg and at First United Methodist Church in Fairmont.

Mrs. Ball is survived by a daughter, Janielu Board and her husband Gene of Fairmont; three grandchildren, David Alan Board and his wife Susan of Palmer, Alaska, Lydia Jane Gwaltney and her husband Paul of Morgantown and Jonathan Andrew Board and his wife Ileana of Fairmont; and five great grandchildren, Emily Jane Gwaltney, Molly Elizabeth Gwaltney, Benjamin Lawrence Board, Hero Marianna Board and Paxton Clark Board.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca; a grandson, Richard Rumbold; and her sister, Jeanne Whitney.

The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
