Officials probe cause of leaks in Ohio dam

August 31, 2014
Associated Press

WAVERLY, Ohio (AP) — Leaks found at a dam at a state park in southern Ohio have led the state to ask boat owners to remove their boats while officials check for the cause.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources website noted on its website Sunday that Lake White had been lowered nearly three feet below summer pool after leaks were found in a Friday inspection. Some of the water has been drained from the 337-acre lake in Waverly so inspectors can get a better look at any damage.

Recreational activity on the water at Lake White State Park was closed to allow the department to assess the situation that the agency says appears to be stable.

The rest of the state park remains open.
