Janita C. Stewart, 85, of Parkersburg, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
She was born in Wood County, a daughter of the late John. W. and Laura (Anderson) Platt.
She retired from Bell Atlantic and was a lifetime member of Communication Workers of America and Pioneers of America.
She is survived by two daughters, Crystal E. Hively (Dan) of Washington, W.Va., and Laura P. Coocen (Fred) of Parkersburg; son, Michael D. Stewart of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren, Mike Taylor, David Mackey (Laurie), Allen Stewart, Lanny Stewart, Megan Hively, Myndi Stewart, Jill Hively (Jim Pratt) and Whitney Stewart Wells (Justin); five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert S. Stewart; daughter, Sue Mackey; son, Herbert "Lanny" Stewart; sister, Mildred Coe; and brother, John W. Platt, Jr.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. L. Norman Butler officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at the funeral home.
