Long time resident of Pennsboro, Shirley Ann Cottrill, 78, went to Heaven to be with her Lord, on Friday, July 11, 2014, enroute to Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
Shirley was born June 1, 1936, at her parents' home on Stewart's Run near Harrisville, a daughter of the late Audra and Minnie (Moore) Hiley. In her early years, Shirley worked for the Consumer's Gas Co. of Pennsboro as a secretary. After the birth of her daughter, Joy, she spent the rest of her life as a loving homemaker for her family. For more than a decade, she has volunteered her time as a reader at Creed Collins Elementary School in Pennsboro. Shirley was a longtime member of Pennsboro United Methodist Church where she was very active. She served as the evangelism team leader and was also a member of United Methodist Women. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening vegetables and tending to her many flowers. She loved her small town and will be greatly missed by friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Cottrill and husband Derek Banas of Verona, Pa.; her two grandchildren, Willow and Ivy Banas; her two sisters and their spouses, Sharon and Gary Antel of Wheeling and Laura and Geral Riggs of Colliers, W.Va; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jacob C. Cottrill, in 1999.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with Pastors Kelly Martin and Bill Durst officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisville IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
