Martha F. Devol, 87, of Parkersburg, passed away July 6, 2014, at her residence, under the loving care of her family and House Calls Hospice.
She was born in Wood County, W.Va., June 21, 1927, the daughter of the late Marion C. and Eve Fay Mount Knaus.
She was a member of the Seventh Street United Methodist Church, where she was active with the Hannah-Ruth Circle and Crusaders Sunday School Class. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, doing puzzles and playing tennis.
Surviving Martha are her daughter, Vera Rae Rhodes and husband Larry of Parkersburg; son, Norman Gale Devol of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Gary Rhodes of Parkersburg, Lauri Rhodes Narvarte of Reno, Nev.; four great-grandchildren, Riley Rhodes, Corinne Rhodes, Kaley Davis (Narvarte) and Aitor Narvarte; special friend and neighbor, Denise Hills; and loving companion, Alex, her special dog. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Norman U. Devol in 2007; great-granddaughter, Morgan Dawn Rhodes; sister, Ina Bea Devol; brother, Marion Ray Knaus; and daughter-in-law, Betty Devol.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Pamela Shuman officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, July 9, at the funeral home.
