Dean P. Pierce, 77, of Harrisville, died June 30, 2014, at his residence, after battling esophageal cancer since Feb. 2013.
He was born March 17, 1937, at Central Station, W.Va., the son of the late Baxter "Mack" McCellan and Gracie Maude Britton Pierce.
Dean was a retired crane and press operator with U.S. Fabrication, now called Crown Steel, in Wooster, Ohio. He was a member of Killbuck VFW and Shreve Sportsman Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of Harrisville Assembly of God.
Dean is survived by his wife, Madeline Rita Sampsel Pierce; sons, Donald Pierce of Millersburg, Ohio, Robert Pierce (Diane) of Dover, Ohio, Marvin Pierce of Millersburg, and Steven Pierce (Donna) of Jeromesville, Ohio; daughters, Linda Barker (Jack) of Bandera, Texas, and Ellen McFarlane (Mike) of Jeromesville; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and loyal dogs, Lady and Nugget. He was preceded in death by sisters, Opal McCauley, Ruth Riddle, Marie Riddle and Virginia Pratt; brothers, McCellan "Ben" Pierce, Frank Pierce, Arnold "Doc" Pierce and Donald Pierce; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Spratt Pierce.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, W.Va., with Pastor Jeffery Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the South Fork Baptist Cemetery, near Summers, W.Va. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
