Ronald Melvin Deem, 88, of Marietta, passed away June 26, 2014, at the Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 16, 1925, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Ronald R. and Glenna M. Bowersock Deem.
Ronald was of the Methodist Faith and was retired from the Springfield, Ohio, (Clark County) School District as Superintendent. He was also retired from the Coaches Association of Springfield. Locally, he had coached at Ripley and Williamstown. Ronald was also a member of the Elks Lodge, the Eagles Club, Rotary International and the American Legion of Williamstown. He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Surviving is his wife, Betty LeRow Deem; one son, Ronald L. Deem of Marietta; two sisters, Connie Shackelford of Williamstown and Darlene (Kevin) Jursinski of Estero, Fla.; five grandchildren, Betty Roetgerman, Chris Shackelford, Jamie Lampitt, Lauren Ballotti and Kara Jursinski; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Deem; and an infant sister, Ilene Deem.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th Street, Parkersburg. Mr. Jim Waybright will be speaking. Burial will follow at the Big Tygart Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post # 15 of Parkersburg. The visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at the funeral home.
