Robert “Bob” Gilbert

Robert "Bob" Bailey Gilbert, 84, of Slate Creek, W.Va., passed away on June 25, 2014 at his residence.

He was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Merle and Edna Bailey Gilbert. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from O'Ames Company. He loved farming, cattle, horses and tractors. He was a board member of the Wood County Farm Bureau, co-founder and Alumni of FFA, Blennerhassett Branch and a member of Slate Chapel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arda Watson Gilbert; four daughters, Becky Powell of Slate, Linda Allen (Roger) of Rose Hill, Elizabeth, W.Va., Marilyn Lott (Paul) of Parkersburg, and Kim Cline (Ronnie) of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; three sons, Steve Gilbert (Heather), of Larkspur, Colo., Mike Gilbert (Tina) of Crescent City, Fla., and Rex Gilbert of Parkersburg; a sister-in-law, Mary Gilbert Genzery (Gaza) of New York, and her children, Catherine Ann, Roger and Chris; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Gilbert; one sister, Juanita Gilbert, and one granddaughter, Melissa Cline.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, June 30, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor Paul Williams officiating with full military rites by American Legion Post #15. Interment will follow at Merrill Chapel Cemetery in Wirt County. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 29 at the funeral home.
