Betty (DeGoines) Byrd, 77, of Harrisville/Walker, W.Va., passed on Monday, June 16, 2014, at her home.
She was born April 23, 1937, in Walker, W.Va., to the late Frank and Lena (Heldreth) DeGoines.
Betty was an antique car enthusiast; she enjoyed restoring and showing her '67 Corvair. She enjoyed her career with H&R Block. She owned and operated a flower shop in Parkersburg for a short time. She loved to sew, cook and make homemade bread.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ray V. Byrd; one daughter, Dianna Hewitt (Vance) of Walker, W.Va.; one son, Frank Byrd of Walker, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Jay Hewitt (Aliza) of Fairmont, W.Va., and MacKenzie Byrd of Walker, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren, Van Hewitt and Summerlee Hewitt, both of Fairmont, W.Va.; 9 brothers and sisters; and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson; two brothers; and two sisters.
Memorial contributions in Betty's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Randall Fuson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Walker, W.Va. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 19, at the funeral home.
