Donald Flowers, 76, of Waverly, W.Va., Oak Grove Community, passed away at home on June 13, 2014.

He was born Nov. 14, 1937, in Pleasants County, W.Va., a son of the late Curtis and Ada Higgins Flowers.

He was a member of Laborers Local 1085 in Parkersburg and had worked in construction. He was a concrete finisher on the side. He was a member of Willow Island Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, canning and, most important, he loved his family and especially his grandchildren. When Don got older and his health failed, even though he couldn't do the things he was used to, he would still get enjoyment from sitting on his front porch. He loved to watch the birds, squirrels and deer.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ellen Delancy Flowers; five children, Don Flowers Jr. and friend, Maggie Whaley, of Parkersburg, Tim Flowers of Williamstown, Wendell Flowers and wife, Robbin, of St. Marys, Susie Hescht and husband, Doug, of Waverly, W.Va., and Kellie Morey and husband, Dave, of Winchester, Va.; two grandchildren, Katelyn Yeager of Winchester and T. J. Flowers and wife, Morgan, of Marietta, Ohio; two stepgrandsons, Justin and Jason; great-grandson, Brantley Flowers of Marietta; three sisters, Garnet Malone of Waverly, Vaudia Greathouse and husband, Herschel, of St. Marys and Betty Reynolds of Belmont, W.Va.; one brother, Marvin Flowers of Waverly; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a grandson; three brothers, Robert, Gale and Lawrence Flowers; one sister, Geraldine Moore; his dog, "Shorty"; and the Kelley Family, who were very close to him.

The family would like to express their special thanks to hospice nurse Annie Hurst for Don's care.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Jimmy Taylor and Allen Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Pleasants Memorial Estates, Eureka, W.Va. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
