Harold "Skip" Ballengee

Harold "Skip" Ballengee, 77, of Walker, W.Va., died Thursday June 12, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Ritchie County, a son of the late Elton A. and Edith (Farnsworth) Ballengee.

Skip was a United States Air Force veteran. He was a Master Electrician and a member of IBEW Local 968 and had just received his 50-year pin. He was also a member of the Moose and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, watching boxing and wrestling and spending time on his farm. Skip was an avid aviator and enjoyed flying out of Stewart Airport in Vienna before it closed.

He is survived by his beloved wife and companion of forty years, Martha A. (Myers) Ballengee; son Jason T. Ballengee of Parkersburg; three grandchildren, Jason T. Ballengee II and Jacob T. Ballengee (Irene) of Parkersburg, and Ceciley Y. Ballengee of Adairsville, Ga.; a great grandson, Thaxton, of Parkersburg; and a sister, Elsa L. Ballengee of Bunker Hill, W.Va.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey T. Ballengee.

Services will be Monday 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father John Gallagher officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Walker, W.Va. Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.

The family would like to thank Dr. Vivek Abhyankar and his team at the Strecker Cancer Center in Belpre and Marietta, the staff at Marietta Memorial Hospital, and the Amedisys personnel for their wonderful care.
