Donald L. McVay, 71, of Washington, flew into the arms of God, his Lord and Savior, as his daughter sang his favorite hymn, "I'll fly away", May 19, 2014, in Orlando, Fla.
He was born Jan. 7, 1943, in New Albany, Ohio, a son to the late Rolandis and Nora McVay.
He was a graduate of PHS Class of 1961, and went on to attend Mountain State College. He retired from DuPont after 36 years of service. He owned and operated Don McVay's Tax Service and Bookkeeping for over 50 years and was the owner and CEO of J&J's Personal Touch for 23 years. He was a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church where he was a Church Trustee, and held many other positions throughout the years, and he was a member of the Senior Adult Ministry there. Don also was a Boy Scout Master for over 20 years, and taught Hunter Safety Courses. He was also a member of the Washington Bottom Lion's Club.
Don loved sports; watching NASCAR, and cheering on his favorite teams, the Cincinnati Reds, Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also loved music, especially the old hymns, bluegrass and the good "old" country. He loved his John Deere tractor and enjoyed mowing. Don loved planting a garden and flowers, but would always pray that God would water and weed them. He loved to travel, especially when he could drive. He enjoyed bananas and chocolate cheerios, cooking ribs, going out to eat and fellowshipping during Church dinners. We will remember Don for his laugh, his smile, his kisses on the cheek and his normal request of "Give me a break".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Janet Smiley McVay; brothers, Edwin McVay and Charles McVay; and sister, Kathleen McVay. He is survived by his children, David Alan McVay of Grove City, Ohio, and Julie Lynne Morgan (Rick) of Washington; granddaughter, Jaylyne "J" Lynnette Morgan; brothers, James McVay, Kenneth McVay and Robert McVay; sister, Marilyn Sease; along with many other extended family and friends.
