Marjorie A. Newell

Marjorie Ann Newell, 86, of Parkersburg, passed away May 17, 2014, at her residence.

She was born in Parkersburg on Oct. 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Frederick Tyson and Mildred E. Brennen Bailey.

Marge was a 1946 graduate of Parkersburg High School and had worked at Walter C. Harding for several years, and at Darrell's Market for 12 years. She had volunteered at the Stone Kitchen, Faith Link for 10 years, Red Cross, and with Habitat for Humanity. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed the Worthington Golf Course. Marge was active with Toastmasters and received several awards. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church where she was active with the choir for over 50 years, the Matthew 25 outreach program for over 25 years, and served with the Sanctuary Society. She was a remarkable lady who loved her family and her church.

Surviving Marge are her children, Roderick M. Newell and wife, Nancy, of Little Hocking, Rebecca L. Humphrey and husband, Dave, of Coolville, Terry Sheff and husband, George, of Little Hocking, Scott Newell and wife, Julie, of Parkersburg, Christina Gates and husband, Mark, of Cutler, Chris Newell and wife, Mary, of Parkersburg and Matt Newell and wife, Tonya, of Vienna; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; stepsister, Patricia Wiley of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Roderick Leo "Rut" Newell; sister, Marilyn Steele; stepmother, Mary Bailey; and two stepbrothers, Clarence and Bill Casto.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 21, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with a Christian Wake service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
