William Edwin ‘ED’ Lucas

William Edwin "ED" Lucas, 92, of Williamstown, formerly of Pennsboro, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio.

He was born April 8, 1922 in Pike, W.Va., the son of the late William Ore and Alice Martin Lucas.

Mr. Lucas graduated from Pennsboro High School in 1941 and served in the 3rd Division 15th Infantry of the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. He was married to Maxine Zeller Lucas for 58 years until her death. He attended and played football at WVU and following WWII at Muhlenberg College. In 2001, Ed was honored by being inducted into the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame.

Ed retired from American Cyanamid (Cytec Industries) in 1983. He was a member of the Pennsboro United Methodist Church, the Nemesis Shrine, the American Legion Post 83 of Pennsboro, Harmony Lodge No. 59, the Pennsboro Commandery No.20-Knights Templar, Order of the Eastern Star-Pennsboro Chapter 26, and O'Dell S. Long No.25-Pennsboro Chapter No. 26. He was honored to serve as Pennsboro High School Alumni Parade Marshal in 2001.

For those who knew him, he loved rabbit hunting, was a good cook, was Maxine's right hand for her crafts, could tell a great story, a good friend and a hard worker.

Ed was preceded in death by his sisters, Oleta Haynes and Juanita Redding, and their husbands; as well as his nephew, Edwin Haynes. He will be missed by his two children, Mike Lucas of Parkersburg, and wife Barbara, and Sue Lucas of Williamstown, with whom he resided until his death. He is survived by his two grandsons, Ryan Lucas and wife Jade of Fairfax, Va., and James Lucas of Reston, Va.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, with the Pastor Kelly Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Harmony Masonic Cemetery, Pennsboro, W.Va. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 16, and from noon until 1 p.m. on the day of the service.
