ATHENS - Two people are dead after a single-vehicle accident on Ohio 56 in Athens County on Friday afternoon.
Darrell J. Young II, 24, of Athens and his son Tyler H. Young, 19 months old, of Athens, were killed in the wreck that closed Ohio 56 in Athens County for approximately 20 minutes at 12:44 p.m. Friday, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
According to the report, Darrell Young was driving his 1999 Nissan pick-up westbound on Ohio 56 when he drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree, the press release said.
Tyler Young was restrained in a child seat at the time of the accident, the press release said. He was declared deceased at the scene, the press release said. He was taken to Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, police said.
Darrell Young was taken by helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, the press release said. He was ejected from his vehicle during the accident and was not wearing a seat belt, the press release said.
Grant Medical Center advised the Ohio State Highway Patrol that Darrell Young died from his injuries at 8:10 p.m. Friday, the press release said.
