Elizabeth Emerson Bonnet, 89, of Indiana, Pa., died May 1, 2014.
She is survived by her five children, Betty Lou Hovland, Robert and Vera Bonnet of Indiana, Pa., Richard and Mary Bonnet of Parkersburg, Nancy Bonnet of Harrisburg and Marjorie and John Gibson of Luray, Va. She also is survived by nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Born April 4, 1925, in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., she married Richard Bonnet on June 28, 1947, and together they lived and raised a family in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia. They were happily married for 52 years. She enjoyed her life as a wife and mother, and after that, started a career. She was hired by St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg as their first Director of Volunteers, then earned a nursing degree and worked for many years in nursing. Her many interests included needlework, knitting, gardening and running a small farm. She wrote several articles on small farming which were published in Countryside Magazine.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will be held in Luray, Va., at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Outreach Programs at The Memorial Church of the Good Shepherd, 903 Charles St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.
Contributions are also welcomed for the outdoor courtyard development project at St. Andrews Village, 1155 Indian Springs Rd. Indiana, PA 15701.
