Smoot Spring Sing
PARKERSBURG - The Smoot Spring Sing will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at the Smoot Theatre, 213 Fifth St. The program will begin with an invitation-only event for young area singers sponsored by the Smoot Theatre Children's Chorus.
Beginning at 1 p.m., the invited guest singers will join the chorus for an afternoon of fun musical activities, learning vocal techniques and new songs.
The public performance will be held at 4 p.m. at the Smoot following the afternoon session.
The concert will include songs by the whole group as well as songs by the STCC and the Smoot Theatre Boys Quartet.
The chorus is an auditioned group comprised of 34 singers in fourth through sixth grades and is under the direction of Barbara Full, Marsha Parsons and Felice Jorgeson.
Auditions for next year's group will be May 21 and 24, with information available by calling the Smoot Theatre at 304-422-7529 or email@example.com.
PARKERSBURG - The renowned Spanish Harlem Orchestra will perform 7 p.m. today in the College Activities Center at West Virginia University at Parkersburg. The performance marks the close of the 2013-2014 season for the Distinguished Performance Series at WVU-P.
Tickets at the door are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased in the Business Office during normal college hours, or by calling 304-424-8223. WVU-P students may purchase special advance tickets for themselves and one guest for $2 each.
WASHINGTON, W.Va. - A rummage sale will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Washington United Methodist Church on West Virginia 892 in Washington Bottom. Admission is free.
There will also be hot dogs and baked goods for sale.

Spring Sports Carnival
PARKERSBURG - Parkersburg High School will hold its Spring Sports Carnival, with the theme "House of Rock," beginning with the intramurals at 6:15 p.m. today in the Memorial Field House at PHS.
The production begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance at the Field House and $7 at the door. Intramurals include table tennis, corn hole, basketball, arm wrestling, volleyball and a tug-of-war.
The show includes a Zumba fitness routine, a waltz, performances by the Red Wings, cheerleaders, NJROTC and the PHS Jazz Band. The show will close with the Living Statues.
Used book sale
PARKERSBURG - The Friends of the Libary will hold a used book sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday at the Parkersburg-Wood County Public Library at 3100 Emerson Ave. Today's morning hours are reserved for Friends members only.
Memberships are available at the library at $2 for individuals and $5 for family memberships for a year.
Prices will be $1 for adult hardbacks, 50 cents for adult paperbacks and children's hardbacks and 25 cents for children's paperbacks. DVDs will be $1-2, books on CD are $1, VHS tapes are 50 cents and audio cassettes and LPs will be 25 cents or five for $1.
Beginning noon Saturday, all remaining items will be $1 per bag using bags provided by the Friends.
PARKERSBURG - Two music programs will be held this weekend at American Legion Post 15 at 2505 Ohio Ave. D.J. Misty Frye will be 8 p.m. to midnight today and Silver Eagle will perform from 8 p.m.to midnight Saturday.
Both events are open to the public.
PARKERSBURG - The women of First Presbyterian Church of Parkersburg will hold its Spring Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church at 1341 Juliana St. Admission is free.
The sale will include household items, clothes, books, toys and baked goods. Lunch will be available.
PARKERSBURG - The Mid-Ohio Valley Easter Parade will be 2 p.m. Saturday.
The parade will follow Market Street from the St. Joseph's Campus of Camden Clark Medical Center to the Parkersburg Municipal Building. Before the parade, Breakfast with the Easter Bunny will feature a free breakfast with the Bunny and the Chick-Fil-A Cow from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the Chick-Fil-A restaurant on Grand Central Avenue in Vienna.
Whale of a Sale
PARKERSBURG - The Junior League of Parkersburg will hold its annual Whale of a Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the City Park Pavilion. Admission is $2. Proceeds go to support the Junior League of Parkersburg and its community projects.
PARKERSBURG - Blennerhassett Elementary School Carnival will be noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the school on Jewell Road. There will be games, food, a cake walk, a hay ride, face painting, clowns, prizes and more.
The theme for this year is "Superheroes Unite."
BELPRE - The Belpre Heights United Metodist Church at 720 Clement Ave. will hold its annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny 9-11 a.m. Saturday.
PORTERFIELD - The Porterfield Community Association will hold a spaghetti dinner from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the Porterfield Community Building on Schoolhouse Road off Ohio 339 near Belpre. The cost is $6 for adults and $3.50 for children ages 4-12, with ages 3 and under free with accompanying adult. All proceeds go toward the upkeep of the Porterfield Community Building.
RIPLEY - The seventh annual West Virginia Chocolate Festival will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at McCoy's Conference Center in Ripley, at Exit 138 off Interstate 77. A parade will be held at 11 a.m. There will be a variety of West Virginia chocolatiers offering a large variety of chocolate items for sale. Admittance and parking are free. There will be free samples, face painting, children's games, basket giveaways and entertainment. The site is handicapped accessible. The event is sponsored by the City of Ripley. PARKERSBURG - West Virginia Symphony Orchestrata-Parkersburg will present its spring pops concert "The Wicked Divas!" at 3 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium at Blennerhassett School on Jewell Road. Best Trick Contest
PARKERSBURG - A "Best Trick Contest" for skateboarders will begin with registration at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Parkersburg Skate Plaza next to the E.L.I.T.E. Sports Center. The event is open to beginner, intermediate and advance skaters with prizes for winners in each bracket. The event will be hosted by pro boarder Mike Steinkamp. It is sponsored by Downtown Bethel, The Skiers Edge Sports Loft, W.L. Walraven Construction, Wal-Mart, Jeff Campbell and msskateministry.com.
MARIETTA - The "Crazy Daisy Boutique" Pay-It-Forward Campaign will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Marietta Wine Cellars, 211 Second St. Admission is a canned good or non-perishable item. PARKERSBURG - The monthly Parkersburg Moose Lodge Senior Dance and Dinner will be held 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the lodge off West Virginia 95.
The free event is open to the public.

BEVERLY - A soup luncheon will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Beverly Masonic Lodge.

ATHENS - The High Society Jazz Association will present the Athens High Society Jazz Band from 3:30-6 p.m. Sunday at the Historic Eclipse Country Store between Athens and The Plains.
