BELPRE - Visiting Eastern took advantage of five Belpre errors in the sixth inning to score six runs, breaking open a close game en route to a 10-1 TVC Hocking softball victory over the Golden Eagles Wednesday at Civitan Park.
Eastern, now 3-0 on the young season, tallied once each in the third and fourth frames to take a 2-0 lead. Jessica Coleman singled in the game's initial run in the third, and Hannah Bailey added the Eagles' second run with an RBI double in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Belpre, now 0-3, left nine runners on base through its first four at-bats, including with the bases loaded twice in the first and fourth.

But in the top of the sixth, after two runs scored on RBI singles from Brianna Bailey and Paige Cline sandwiched around a run-scoring Belpre error, two more runs crossed the plate on Golden Eagle miscues before still another two Belpre errors led to Katelyn Barber's RBI single and an 8-0 Eastern lead.
Belpre finally lit up the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the sixth on Gabbie Gramkow's two-out RBI single. But the visitors tacked on two more runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Madison Woodyard as well as Belpre's eighth - and final - error of the game.
"That was our third game, and it's been the same mistakes in all three - too many batters left on base and one bad inning on defense," said Belpre head coach Stephanie Evans. "I told the girls after this one that it's the little things that add up that end up being big things by the end of the game."
Nevertheless, Evans was "proud of our hitting today (10 hits) - that's something that we've done in every game is hit the ball. But the hits were too scattered for us today; we've got to get them at the right time.
"We're staying positive though and working to get better."
