MARIETTA - Marietta College has received a $15,000 grant from the Hess Corp.
Bob Chase, chairman of the Department of Petroleum Engineering and Geology, said the funds will be used for the Hess Leadership Scholarship and to send 46 students to the annual Society of Petroleum Engineers Technical Conference and Exhibition in Amsterdam in October.
The college's petroleum engineering program has grown to more than 340 undergraduate students and more than 50 students in geology.
"Hess Corp. continues to play a very key role in recruiting activities at Marietta College. We are excited that Hess has taken a strategic position in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale in Ohio," Chase said. "We believe that we can play an even bigger role in the future in helping to meet their manpower needs in the Appalachian Basin. We also hope we are able to get some of our students out to visit some of their operations in Ohio in the year ahead."
