Dr. Nick Endrizzi

Dr. Nick Endrizzi, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, March 24, 2014, at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Wheeling, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Natale and Emma Zanoni Endrizzi; his step-father, Vincent Tomasini; by his wife of 58 years, Ann Theresa Mahoney Endrizzi; and also by his seven siblings, Mary Hoder Springhetti, Sam Endrizzi, Anne Adams Myers, Barbara Adams, Carmella Reass, Emma Lou Endrizzi and Vincent Tomasini.

He was born on Dec 25, 1919, in Century, W.Va., and grew up in St. Clairsville, Ohio. After high school, he attended West Virginia University before he enlisted and served as a gunnery instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II, and flew missions over Europe. After the war, he graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He moved to Parkersburg in 1951 with his wife, Ann, where he practiced as a Veterinarian until 1984. Together they raised five children. He was a loving father and grandfather, was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church, the Knights of Columbus 594, the WV Veterinary Medical Association, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, a Life Member of the AVMA, WV Farm Bureau Assoc., the Blennerhassett Kennel Club and the Parkersburg Country Club. Nick was a long time blood donor for the American Red Cross and an avid supporter of Parkersburg Catholic Schools. He was elected president of the WV Veterinary Medical Association in 1965 and was awarded "Veterinarian of the Year" in 1988. He was appointed to serve for several years on the board of licensing for the WV Board of Veterinary Medicine, part of those years as president of that board.

He is survived by his five children, Dr. Mike Endrizzi of Tampa, Fla., Kathy Endrizzi of Columbus, Ohio, Nancy (Rex Lasure) Endrizzi of Wheeling, W.Va., Mary (Robert) Wright of Parkersburg and Emma (Craig) O'Leary of Wheeling, W.Va.; by his 10 grandchildren, Anna Endrizzi, Chris Endrizzi, Carmella (Jeb) Wright Mandeville, Trey (fiancee, Abby Tyjeski) Wright, Ben Lasure, Gina Lasure, Nick Lasure, Vincent O'Leary, Erin O'Leary and Daniel O'Leary; a sister-in-law, Frances Tomasini of Kingsport, Tenn.; and by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Parkersburg. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg.

His family commends the Home of the Good Shepherd for the excellent care and compassion he was given in his final years.

Box 1762, Parkersburg, WV 26102-1762 to support the Salvation Army, who helped Nick's family significantly in his childhood after the death of his father.
