PARKERSBURG - Anna Richards knocked in the tying runs to force extra innings and then scored the winning run here Saturday afternoon at Don Godbey Memorial Park to lift host Parkersburg South to a wild 6-5 softball victory in 11 innings over Ripley in the opening game of a twinbill.
Rhe Patriots' Megan Bosley went the distance, walking four and striking out a pair, to earn the victory.
Ripley's Darby Petersen worked the first eight frames before being lifted for Chlesey Hager, who was charged with the loss after Richards reached in the 11th via an error and scored on a wild pitch.

Parkersburg South leadoff hitter Logan Somerville is forced out at home by Ripley catcher Ashley Mellinger Saturday. The Patriots defeated the Vikings, 6-5, in 11 innings, during the first game of a doubleheader.
Following a scoreless first four frames, the Vikings struck for three runs in the fifth. Myranda Murphy, who later left the game with an ankle injury, started the fifth with a free pass. Hannah Ford reached on an infield single and after Murphy was erased on Kelsey Moore's fielder's choice, Viking No. 2 hitter Meghan Brannon had two runners on. Her single to left got by the Patriot outfield and allowed Ford to score the first run. Ashley Mellinger and Hager knocked in the other two runs, thanks to a fielder's choice and a ground-out respectively.
The Vikings of head man Ken Swisher, who entered the contest at 2-0 and return home for a 5:30 p.m. Monday game versus Huntington, tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. Brannon doubled to left and scored on Petersen's RBI base knock. Although Hager crushed a double to deep left, she was left stranded when Dusti Fisher's rocketed liner was snared by Patriot shortstop Nicole Landis.
PSHS head coach Jennifer Null's team entered the seventh down four and had left eight runners stranded. That included leaving the bases loaded in the first and again in the fifth when none were out. However, Kristen Hamilton reached in the seventh on a one-out walk, Sarah Huffman singled to left and Trinity Fury delivered an RBI single to center. Huffman scored to make it 4-2 when she crossed home on an error. After Landis and Bosley drew free passes and Petersen recorded a punchout, Richards delivered a two-out, two-run single off the first-base bag to force extras.
Tori Anderson's bloop single to shallow right started the Viking eighth and pinch-runner Sierra Norris scored the go-ahead run on a three-base throwing error when PSHS attempted to pick her off at first.
The Patriots got the run back in the home half of the frame when Hamilton singled, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and made it 5-all on Fury's RBI single back up through the box into center.
Brannon and Somerville collected three hits apiece.
PSHS returns to action with a 4:30 p.m. Tuesday doubleheader against visiting John Marshall.
