Vera ‘Peggy’ Drake

Vera "Peggy" Drake, 86, of Parkersburg passed away March 20, 2014, at Eagle Pointe.

She was born in Parkersburg, Jan. 18, 1928, a daughter of the late Albert H. and Grace M. Sams Halfhill.

She worked for the Wood County Board of Education as a crossing guard. She attended Beechwood Presbyterian Church and was a member of DAV. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed sewing and working puzzle books.

She is survived by six daughters, Gloria Smith (Larry) of Parkersburg, Terrie Blair (Carl) of Vienna, Carol Smith (Mark) of Parkersburg, Lisa Drake of Parkersburg, Linda Drake of Parkersburg and Grace Cooper (Chris) of Mineral Wells; a sister Irene Tearl of Maryland; two special granddaughters Mandi and Shannon and 17 other grandchildren; two special great grandsons Hunter and Remington and 36 other great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Baylor Clayton Drake, daughter Barbara Burton; son Ronnie Sprague; grandsons Chad Friend, Bruce Moore and Andrew Flinn and several brothers and sisters.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Brian Harrell officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery North. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today.
