March 20, 2014
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

Wanda Jean (Brown) Locke, (known as "Mom Locke"), born Aug. 23, 1929, passed from this world on March 17, 2014, to Live in Heaven Eternally, one of three daughters and two brothers, born to Fannie Mae and Grover Cleveland Brown, Dorothy, Brian, Mont and Edith and a stepbrother, Daryl, all passed previously.

Mom graduated from Marietta High School in 1947. Mom married William D. Locke on April 17, 1949. They waited three years before starting their family with William W. (Billy) Locke, two years later, another boy, Donald D. (Donny) Locke, then two years later on Billy's fourth birthday, a daughter, Tina Louise. Not stopping there, one year later, Dana D. joined the family, although Mom and Dad thought they were done, they were blessed to another addition to the family, Adam A.

Mom and Dad worked very hard raising four boys and one daughter, and at the age of 36, Mom started driving a school bus for Belpre City Schools. Mom Locke had a positive influence with all her passengers for over 40 years she drove a bus, making so many friends they cannot be counted. She could not go anywhere she didn't run into one of her "Kids." She retired from bus driving at the age of 76.

Mom's husband Bill passed Sept. 23, 1995. Mom was a Past Worthy Matron with Eastern Star and encouraged her daughter, Tina, and son, Donny, to participate with her. Mom was never too busy to sit with any of her friends and have a cup of coffee and gab. Her kitchen was open to all for some rest and conversation.

She is survived by her oldest son, Billy and his wife, Karen, Donny and his wife, Jane, Tina and her fiance, Steve Hinton, Dana and his wife, Debby, and Adam and his fiance, Jeanine Vanison. She is also survived by many grandchildren, Jennifer, Chris and his wife, Kara, Megan, Missy and Mindy, Vanessa and her husband, David Johnson, and Matt and Lyndsey; and great-grandchildren, Kyah, Calissa and Will and Garrett and Karly.

We would like to thank Dr. Banks, Dr. Kuppuswamy at Camden Clark, all the nurses on the third floor and fifth floor and to the special nurses in Acute care, Cassis and Carrie, all the kindness and care your gave our mother did not go unnoticed; and to the team at Western Hills (Health South), and to those at The Willows.

With the loving help of Marietta Home Health and Hospice, we were able to bring Mom home where she wanted to be, to spend her last hours with her family around her in her own home.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Pastor John Watkins and Robert Watkins. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rockland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Marietta Home Health and Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at leavittfuneralhome.com
