Joseph R. Higgins

Joseph Riley Higgins, 91, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Holzer Medical Center, in Gallipolis.

Joe was born on Nov. 7, 1922, in Mason County, a son to the late Joseph L. and Ada (Edwards) Higgins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beulah and Cecil Roseberry and Daisy and Charles Huffman; two infant brothers; and a special niece, Margaret June Daye.

Joe is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Julia Higgins, of Point Pleasant; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ralph Patterson, of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Dee Dee and John Aaron Dabney, of Point Pleasant, Cathy Jo and Mark Knotts, of Charleston and Jimmy and Missy Higgins, of Washington, W.Va.; three great-grandchildren, Cory and Erin Dabney, Joseph Riley Higgins and Zachary Knotts; and a special nephew, Doug and Dale Huffman.

Joe loved going to church and reading his Bible. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, in Point Pleasant, for over 40 years. Joe retired from AEP after more than 30 years of service. After retiring, his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Joe's life will be remembered at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with Rev. Jonathan Pinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Lutton Cemetery, in Flatrock. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
