PARKERSBURG - In less than two weeks, area fight fans will have an opportunity to take in what appears to be a more than solid bout card at Ohio Valley Unviersity's Alumni Gymnasium.
Promoter Mike Sheppard is more than excited for Fighting Scots Fight Night 2, which is set to take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.
"If you look through the matches there are two amateurs coming down from Akron, two guys coming from the Zanesville/Cambridge area and Keith Barr's opponent is coming from Virginia," Sheppard said. "Other than that everyone is right in Parkersburg. I'm expecting a sellout.
"We're going to start and run right through them and there is going to be gloves cracking for about two and a half hours. All the fights are solid and I've got people calling me, but I'm turning them away. It's a nice problem to have."
One of the marquee amateur bouts will be at heavyweight between Shawn Knotts and Dalton Memel, which is slated for a trio of two-minute rounds.
"They fought at the (Parkersburg) Toughman this year and Shawn lost to the guy who got runner-up this year," Sheppard noted.

Sheppard said he plans on starting the event, which will have the doors open at 6:30 p.m., with an amateur bout between locals Chad Miller and Justin Knopp.
"Chad is a young kid and got runner-up in the (Parkersburg) Toughman," Sheppard said. "Chad throws so many punches and Justin Knopp is a tough guy. That's going to be a good fight right off the bat."
There are 15 scheduled amateur bouts, two of which will be kickboxing. One features Matt DeBarr against Jerry Dixon and the other pits Joe Strickland versus Josh Ramey.
"All of the matches are just neck and neck," Sheppard added.
The first Fighting Scots Fight Night was held last year on May 18. Once again, the OVU softball team will be handling concessions at the event.
Parkersburg's Preston Wilson, a two-time toughman champ who went undefeated as an amateur, will make his professional ring debut against Steven Chesnick.
Of the five pro bouts currently on tap, Sheppard is anxious to see what happens when Donnie Miller takes on Steven Whitehair during a light middleweight scheduled four-rounder.
"There's a lot of interest in this fight and it's a little rivalry," Sheppard said of the Miller/Whitehair showdown. "Donnie beat Steven's dad Steve several years ago."
Currently, the only unmatched bout is a pro heavyweight one featuring Kevin Franklin, but an opponent should be finalized shortly.
