FAIRMONT - A Sistersville native is the new Mrs. West Virginia United States 2014.
Melissa Smith won the pageant held Feb. 23 at East Fairmont High School and will compete for Mrs. United States National Pageant.
"I look forward to representing West Virginia throughout my reign. I am completely honored to have this opportunity and will do my best to make you all proud, in Las Vegas, and the whole year through," she said.

Smith, a 2010 graduate of Tyler Consolidated High School and daughter of Terry and Teresa Jackson of Alma, is married to Joe Smith. The couple has two sons, Erickson and Eli.
Smith is involved with Newborns in Need, the Ronald McDonald House and her fundraiser, Crowns for a Cause, to help individuals facing adversity. Her favorite hobbies include attending West Virginia Univesity football games, making memory rag quilts and reading books to her children. She describes herself as genuine, spontaneous, and dedicated individual.
She attends WVU and plans to pursue a career as a fourth grade teacher. She enjoys interior decorating and trying craft ideas that she finds on Pinterest.
The Mrs. United States National Pageant will be held July 20-25 in Las Vegas.
"I am proof that hard work pays off," Smith said. "I encourage all women to experience the personal development that pageantry has to offer."
