Samual Allen Dye, 77, of Vienna passed away March 6, 2014 at the Arbors at Marietta.
He was born on near Reedy, W.Va. in Wirt County, Feburary 16, 1937, a son of the late Alvin Elden and Ruby Maude Freshwater Dye. He lived with his parents until he entered high school, then lived with his grandparents in Elizabeth and helped care for grandfather who was bed fast.
In high school he belonged to the National Honor Society, student council, Hi-y and participated in football, basketball, and baseball.
After high school he entered the Navy attaining the rate of Electrician mate, 2nd Petty officer. During his electrician mate schooling he graduated 2nd in his class. He served aboard the USS Tutuila RG4. During his naval career he served as an electric shop supervisor and division damage control Petty Officer.
After leaving the Navy he was employed by Monongahela Power Company for over 38 years as a supervisor.
He was a former board member of the Vienna Recreation and Improvement Association. He also volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital in the cardiac rehab center for many years.
He survived by two daughters, Teresa (Mark) Butterfield, Carla (Keith) Rippeto and his loving companion Joan Hayden, along with several nieces and nephews and, also a brother Eugene (Norma) and sister Joan (Danny) Emerick.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sister Elva Kelley and husband.
The funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Leavitt Funeral Home Parkersburg. Burial will be at K of P Cemetery in Elizabeth. Visitation will be today, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
