PARKERSBURG - An Ashley Furniture HomeStore is coming to the Gihon Village Shopping Center this spring.
Workers with Parkersburg contractor Phoenix Associates on Friday were renovating the former Belpre Furniture location next to Dollar Tree in the southside shopping complex.
Representatives of the Arcadia, Wis.-based Ashley Furniture and the Pittsburgh-based Glimcher Group, which owns the shopping center, did not return calls seeking comment Friday. A building permit posted on the window had been issued by the city to Ashley Furniture.

Contractor Phoenix Associates is renovating the former Belpre Furniture location, on the left, in the Gihon Village Shopping Center. An Ashley Furniture HomeStore is expected to open there this spring.
"They plan to open by the end of April," Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell said.
Ashley Furniture is the latest in a series of additions to the city's south side.
"Really, south Parkersburg is our best place for expansion in the city," Newell said, citing plenty of land and access to it via Corridor D.
In fact, the city has considered selling its property where the municipal garage is located, given the interest from businesses in the area where Dunkin' Donuts, Sonic, O'Reilly Auto Parts and more have located in recent years, the mayor said.
"We've been very aware that that's where a great deal of expansion will be," he said.
According to the company's website, Ashley Furniture was founded in 1945 with branches in Chicago and Goshen, Ind. Initially a sales organization, it merged with Arcadia Furniture in 1976 to form Ashley Furniture Industries.
The company has stores throughout the United States. The other West Virginia locations are in Charleston and Barboursville.
Belpre Furniture spent a decade at the 230 Gihon Village site before consolidating operations at its Belpre location in 2011.
