Athlea Beck, 89, of Pullman, W.Va., departed this life on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Pine View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, one day short of her 90th birthday, following an extended illness.
Athlea was born Feb. 18, 1924, on Bear Run near Holbrook, W.Va., a daughter of the late Henry and Elsie (Gregg) Smith.
She was retired from the former Economy Industries of Harrisville, W.Va., after a 20+ year career in the garment factory. She greatly enjoyed crocheting, quilting, making crafts and served as a loving homemaker for her family.
She is survived by her children, Clem Beck (Mary) of Walkersville, Md., James A. Beck (Virginia) of Pennsboro, W.Va., Eddy Beck (Brenda) of Pullman, W.Va., Earl Beck (Donna) of Tollgate, W.Va., and Julia Collins of Clarksburg, W.Va.; sister, Florence Simons of Harrisville, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James E. Beck in 2000; brothers, Woodrow, Fred and Henry Smith; sisters, Geraldine Woodson and Juanita Smith; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with burial to follow in the Ellenboro Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
