Stanley Daniel ‘Al’ Chips

Stanley Daniel "Al" Chips, 86, of Bethel Park, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospice, Wexford, Pa., on Feb. 16, 2014, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., on March 16, 1927, to Daniel and Harriet (Lehman) Czypinski.

He lived in Chicago for many years until being transferred to Parkersburg in 1974. He was married to the late Jane Mary Borysiewicz on Oct. 13, 1950, and were married for over 55 years. Stan was retired from Bureau of Public Debt of the United States Treasury Department, where he was an internal auditor working for the Inspector General's office out of Washington, D.C.

Stan was a proud World War II Navy veteran serving as a sonarman on the USS Vammen and USS William C. Cole, both destroyer escorts. He was very devoted to his large family. He has many hobbies including, travel, golf, coin collecting, antique collecting, wood carving and the church choir. He and his wife were members of St. Michael Catholic Church in Parkersburg, where they were active volunteers. He taught his children good money management, and was a wonderful husband, father and provider for five children.

Survivors include his brother, Chester Czypinski of Green Bay, Wis.; two sons, John D. Chips and his wife, Mary Beth, and Daniel W. Chips and his wife, Pamela; and two daughters, Susan A. Hall and her husband, William, and Mary T. Henkels and her husband Robert. He had 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his brother, Jerome Czypinski; his son, Allen; and his grandson, Nathan.

Family will welcome friends Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Schellhaas & Sons Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 1600 Stone Mansion Drive at Route 910, Sewickley, PA 15143, Franklin Park. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Sepulcher Catholic Church, 1304 E. Cruikshank Road, Butler, PA 16002. Interment will follow in Holy Savior Catholic Cemetery, Gibsonia.
