PARKERSBURG - Wood County Schools will have counselors and other assistance available today at Blennerhassett Middle School following the passing of the school's principal.
"It is with great sadness that Wood County Schools announces the loss of one of our school administrators," Mike Fling, assistant superintendent of school services, said in a press release Sunday on behalf of the school system announcing the passing of Jim Hostottle, principal of Blennerhassett Middle School.
No information was available Sunday night regarding funeral services or obituary information.
Fling said Hostottle passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening. The school's faculty and staff met Sunday to develop a plan to assist both the students and staff in coping with the event, he said.
"There will special assistance available to both students and staff (today) and beyond as it is needed. Wood County Schools extends its condolences to family and friends," Fling said.
Hostottle had served as principal of Blennerhassett Middle School since being named to the position by the Wood County Board of Education in 2008 after a period as assistant principal at the school.
Today would normally be a holiday for students in honor of Presidents' Day, but the school board voted last Wednesday to make today an instructional day for students due to the high number of snow days experienced by the school system this winter.
