Paula A. Howell

Paula A. Howell, 65, of Ypsilanti, Mich., passed away Feb. 6, 2014, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

She was born Dec. 4, 1948, in Parkersburg, the daughter of Joseph Paul and Alice Irene (Nottingham) Collums.

Paula attended Parkersburg High School, where she played volleyball. She went on to take classes at West Virginia University and worked as a Certified Public Accountant. She was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine in Parkersburg, and volunteered for Catholic Social Services in Ypsilanti, Mich. Paula enjoyed reading, her dogs, music, public broadcasting, the Detroit Red Wings hockey team and anything to do with University of Michigan sports. Paula was a very creative person and loved making crafts for her family and friends to enjoy. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren, who always brought her great joy.

Survivors include two children, David Howell (Karla Metzger) of Ypsilanti and Amanda (Dave) Howell Bowman of Addison, Mich.; four grandchildren, Meghan Elizabeth Gordon, Grace Alice Bowman, Owen David Bowman and Dylan Bowman; her mother, Irene Collums; one brother, Roger (Peggy) Smiley; two sisters, Julienne Collums and Lynn (Dan Hilford) Diehl Collums; one aunt, Gwendolyn Salyer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Paul Collums; grandparents, Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Collums and Lee and Rebecca Nottingham; two uncles, Estelle Nottingham and Willie Nottingham; and niece, Tonya Butcher.

Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to join a visitation with the family from 6-8 p.m. today at Ochalek Stark Funeral Service in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Contributions in Paula's memory may be made by mail to the Humane Society of Huron Valley at 3100 Cherry Hill Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105, and envelopes will also be available at the visitation.

A memorial service is being planned in Parkersburg for over the summer, with details to be announced at a later time.

Paula was loved and will be greatly missed.
