Elmus Eugene Dodd, age 90, of Pennsboro, W.Va., departed this life on Feb. 4, 2014, at the Care Haven of Belmont.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1923, on Lynn Camp, Ritchie County, W.Va., a son of the late Alva and Laura Jean Whitehair Dodd.
Elmus was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Army. After returning from the war, he worked at West Virginia University as a custodian, and then he was employed by the Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, and then worked for the Pennsboro Glass Factory for 43 years. He enjoyed hunting and tinkering around on cars and other projects he had in his buildings.
He is survived by four sons, Donald Dodd(Sharlene), Pullman, W.Va., Dwight Dodd (Lisa), Petersburg, Robert Dodd (Brenda), Pennsboro, John Dodd (Janet), Pennsboro; two daughters, Linda Tingler (Douglas), Pullman, and Bonnie McCullough (David), Pennsboro; nieces and nephews that were raised in the home, Connie, Terry, Mary, Charlie, Dave and Gary Whitehair; brother-in-law, Ray Richards, Greenwood, W.Va.; first cousin, Elmer Dodd, Smithville, W.Va.;18 grandchildren,19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Frances Whitehair Dodd; son, Bill Dodd; daughter, Nina Dodd; brothers, Paul, Homer and Otis Dodd; sisters, Dorothy Leonard, Hazel Jones, Kathleen Smith, Juanita White and Lora Gale Richards; grandson, Zachary Talkington.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb., 9, 2014 from the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, at 2 p.m. with the Pastor Dan Martin officiating. Internment will follow in the Mt. Harmony Masonic Cemetery, Pennsboro. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 from 4 until 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on the day of the service.
