PARKERSBURG - Although it is more than two months in the future, organizers for the fifth annual Mid-Ohio Valley Easter Parade are looking for volunteers for the event.
"A lot goes into this parade and it grows every year," said parade founder and organizer Kiki Angelos. "We need volunteers to work on getting things ready."
The parade will begin at Parkersburg High School and move down Market Street at 2 p.m. April 12 with a theme of "Hallelujah! He is risen!"
"Because of the theme, I would love to see the churches in Parkersburg do the 13 Stations of the Cross," Angelos said. "I think it would make the day just that much better."
Angelos said she hopes everyone in the Mid-Ohio Valley participates in one or all of the events associated with the parade.
"It is so uplifting to see all of the Mid-Ohio Valley taking part and participating in the parade with enthusiasm to celebrate this special holiday," she said.
An Easter bonnet and hat contest will take place before the parade behind Parkersburg High School as the parade participants line up. Prizes will be awarded to age groups 6-12 years old, 13-18 years old and 19 and older.
"Last year we had more than 60 units (in the parade) and this year I would like to see more," Angelos said. "But as long as people come and have a good time, I will be happy."
Applications to participate in the parade will be available after Feb. 1 at both Chick-Fil-A locations and Auntie Anne's Pretzels in the Grand Central Mall.
