Robert ‘Bob’ Johnson

Robert "Bob" Johnson, 83, went home to be with his Savior and Lord, Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014. He was at Camden Clark Medical Center with his family at his side

He was born in Grafton, W.Va. on March 29,1930, a son of the late Dr. G.H. and Nellie Johnson.

He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1947, and began a career with DuPont in November of 1954, where he worked for over 31 years before retiring. Additionally he was a local TV repairman for years and was the family Mr. Fix-it. An avid wrestling fan, Bob was a founding member of the Parkersburg South Athletic Boosters. He was an active member of First Evangelical Methodist Church for over 38 years where during that time he held several different positions. Bob always had a joke, song and a peppermint for anyone he met.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Geneva G. Johnson; two daughters Susan "Diane" Akers of Parkersburg and Christie DeBarr (David) of Davisville; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Showalter (Mike), Dr. Robert Akers (Michelle), David Akers (Heather), Amy McCleary (Brad), Matthew DeBarr, Bryan DeBarr (Erin), Tara Staats (Chad), Jason Johnson (Kristen) and Megan Johnson; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Warren "Mick" Johnson and Jerome Johnson; and two sisters, Carolyn Spruell (Joe) and Barbara Shockwitz (Bernie).

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Michael W. Johnson, his great granddaughter Gweneth G. Akers, his brother Dr. Bill Johnson, and his sister Jewel Dye.

Funeral services will be Friday 2 p.m. at First Evangelical Methodist Church, Parkersburg with Pastor Jeff Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
