Charles Joseph Lafferre, 90, of Parkersburg, passed away on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, with his family at his side.
He was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Parkersburg, a son of the late James and Mary (Petty) Lafferre.
Charles was a veteran of WWII serving in France and Germany with General Patton's 3rd division. He worked at C & P Telephone for 37 years and transferred to AT&T for three years before retiring. He loved working with wood. He built high chairs, benches and rocking chairs for children and fancy shelves that he has passed down to his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, June E. Lafferre; two sons, Charles J. Lafferre (Terri) of Columbus, Ohio, and Brian D. Lafferre (Teresa) of Parkersburg; two daughters, Charlotte L. Hartlaub (Dale) of Sandusky, Ohio, and Lisa D. Lafferre-Miller (Steve) of Savannah, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Brian, Kim, Derrick, Seth, Hannah, Melissa, Maureen and Brittany; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, James F. Lafferre of Lehi, Utah. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
The funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 31, beginning at 1 p.m., at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Jon Lands officiating. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen South Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 30, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
