Before the 2013 election of Pope Francis, I wrote a letter to the editor, hoping for a pope to be inclusive. Pope Francis is exceeding my expectations.
A week or so ago, he granted Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston to speak at a Boston area United Methodist church (my denomination), which was the second time in Roman Catholic history that a cardinal was permitted to so such, the first was Cardinal Richard Cushman, who spoke at the same Boston area Methodist church 50 years ago.
Indeed, a shocker. But you have not heard the rest of the story. Cardinal O'Malley submitted himself to an anointing by a Protestant pastor, the Rev. Ann Robinson, a woman.
What is Pope Francis going to do next? He, more than any other contemporary Christian, is sparking renewed interest in our Christ.
