Roane's Cam Moore wins WSAZ title
HUNTINGTON - Roane County 113-pounder Cam Moore, who scored a 6-1 decision against Teddy Stover of Independence, was the only area champion crowned Saturday at the WSAZ Invitational.
Host Huntington rolled to the team championship with 251 points and was followed by top-ranked Class AA/A Independence with 215. Parkersburg South finished third with 204.
The Highlanders crowned four champions in Logan Grass at 106, Jordan Allen at 120, Ryan Mills at 195 and heavyweight Nigale Cabell, who ended the tournament with a pin of Parkersburg South's Thomas Hall in 5:37. Mills used just 64 seconds to secure a mat slapper against Williamstown David Hastings.
Patriots Dylan Alexander and Logan Dilliner also reached the championship finals at 152 and 220, respectively. However, Alexander was pinned with 27 ticks left in the first period by University's Ryan Lopez and Dilliner fell 3-2 to Winfield's Noah Julian.
Top-ranked Class AAA 132-pounder Bryce Humphreys of Winfield doubled up Williamstown's Dalton George in the 132-pound finals, 4-2. The only other area grappler who made the championship was Wahama's Kane Roush, who was pinned in 6:18 by Marquis Frazier of Greenbrier West.

Parkersburg South also received top-eight finishes from Logan Ball (3rd, 112), Hunter Cline (4th, 106), Colten Nangle (5th, 120), Hunter DeLong (5th, 145), Tyler Newhart (5th, 195), Austin Harris (6th, 126), Matthew Dixon (6th, 170) and Damon Gandee (7th, 160). Patriot 'B' team member Sam Atkinson was eighth at 170.
Roane County's Jacob Spencer scored a 16-1 technical fall against Cline to take third. Nangle's fifth place finish came as a result of an injury to Roane County's Riley White. Raider heavyweight Caije Nichols placed fifth while Wahama's Randall Robie was seventh at 132.
Morgantown takes CCI crown
MT. ZION - Although nearly half the field wasn't able to make it, Morgantown managed to post a 189-171.5 victory here Saturday at the annual Calhoun County Invitational against the host Red Devils.
Calhoun County head coach Mike Stump's program actually collected six individual champions thanks to Allen Metheney (106), Devan McKown (113), Johnny Taylor (132), Casey Ritchie (138), Cole Ritchie (145) and 170-pounder Cole Boatright. Matheney, McKown and Cole Ritchie each had mat slappers in the finals. Taylor scored a 20-6 major decision versus Braxton County's Daniel Hoard, Casey Ritchie blanked Wirt County's Cody Ferguson 2-0 and Boatright picked up a 17-7 major decision against Mohigan Garrett Wotring.
Morgantown 152-pounder Mack Lawrence, who collected his 100th career win at the CCI, secured his title via a 15-0 technical fall against Red Devil David Overbay. MHS also received crowns at 182 from Logan Wotring, at 195 by Dylan Anderson and from 220-pounder Cody Martin, who nipped Wirt County's Dylan Pickrell 3-2.
Braxton County finished third with 112 points and was followed in a tie for fourth with Wirt County and Buffalo, which amassed 93 points each. The Eagles crowned two champions with Brandon Batien winning at 120 via a pin of Poca's Camery Ford. Eagle Levi Jarvis edged Calhoun County's Seth Moore, 5-4, in the 160-pound finals.
Buffalo won the other two individual crowns, both via pin, thanks to 126-pounder Mack Williams and heavyweight Jacob Moore.
