PARKERSBURG - The United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley is accepting applications for funding and grants through April 1 for distribution in 2015.
The agency raises funds for a network of health and human service agencies providing services and programs contributing to the quality of life enjoyed here.
"We continue to look for new and existing opportunities to maximize the benefits from the resources provided by our generous contributors and best support our community," Aaron Stone, Community Investment Committee chairman, said. "We encourage organizations to submit an application for consideration."
Agencies must meet United Way eligibility requirements, Executive Director Joyce Mather said. "These requirements have been adopted by the United Way Alliance Board of Directors to ensure all admitted agencies meet legal and organizational requirements. If an applicant does not meet the eligibility requirements, it will not be considered for funding."
* Applicants must render a service meeting a demonstrated human need, programs must be of quality and quantity justifying present and proposed expenditures and hours of service must be such to meet the needs of the people served.
United Way Grants
* Grants will be considered in one or more focus area that includes emergency services, education, health and operating expenses. * Non-profit organizations receiving United Way funds are evaluated each year for their overall ability to provide service, and impact on the community.
* The applicant must be a local non-profit organization operating under federal tax exempt status 501(c)(3) of the IRS code or a non-501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that meets the furtherance of the United Way charitable purpose and has been in business for a minimum of two years.
* They must be registered and in good standing with the Secretary of State of West Virginia or Ohio and must file all applicable forms with the State.
* The non-profit's management must be vested in a soundly constituted volunteer Board of Directors, large enough to be properly representative, which meets at least quarterly, and which in actual fact, assumes the responsibility and accountability to the public for the governance of the agency.
* The applicant shall make available a copy of a compiled financial statement prepared by an Independent CPA in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles or a substitute acceptable to the United Way.
* The applicant must have a local presence in Belpre, Vienna, Williamstown, Parkersburg or the surrounding geographical area served by the Alliance, which would include the counties of Calhoun, Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt and Wood in West Virginia as well as the Belpre Township in Ohio.
