Michael Stewart Pollack, 63, of Belpre, Ohio passed away January 7, 2014.

He was born May 26, 1950, a son of the late Michael and Margaret Stewart Pollack. A 1968 graduate of Belpre High School. He enjoyed music and in the 1960's he had fun being the lead singer in a local area band.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Charles R. Ware. He later joined the West Virginia Army National Guard and served with the 146th Air Ambulance Company and was deployed to Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He also served with the 1092nd Engineer Battalion and Joint Forces Headquarters-WV. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), South West Asia Service Medal (with 3 service stars), Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with M), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon. He also earned the WV Emergency Service Ribbon (4th Award), WV State Service Ribbon (3rd award) and the WV Service Ribbon (3rd Award). Michael Pollack retired from the West Virginia Army National Guard in 2010 as a Sergeant First Class. West Virginia National Guard, Honor Guard will do graveside military rites.

Prior to joining the National Guard, Mike worked at Warner Pontiac as a salesman and he taught exercise classes at the local YMCA.

After retiring, Mike moved back to Belpre and rekindled his friendship with past friends. He enjoyed being a part of a Bible study group at Steven and Sandy Gant's home. Additionally, Mike was an avid card player, car washer and cleaner and truly enjoyed riding his new Harley.

Mike is survived by a daughter Jill Jackson, uncle John Stewart, and a host of cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by uncles Charles M.Stewart Jr., James Stewart, Robert Stewart and Oliver Stewart and aunts Daisy Whanger, Helena Williams and Eliza McCulty.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, Jan. 25, 11 a.m., at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre. The family will receive friends from 10 until time of services.
