William (Bill) Edward Watson, 91, a resident of Glenwood Retirement Community, Marietta, Ohio, died at Harmar Place on Jan. 16, 2014.
Born in Newtown, Pa., on Jan. 26, 1922, he was the son of Stanley A. and Marguerite N. Watson.
He graduated from Newtown High School in 1940 and Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1947. He was a World War II veteran in the Army Air Force in the African-European theatres. He retired from Walker-Parkersburg as vice-president of administration. Bill was an avid tennis player, enjoyed all his bridge groups and was a particularly enthusiastic viewer and player of the game of baseball. Over the years, travels in the U.S. and many foreign countries were rewarding adventures. He was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Parkersburg, where he served as an elder, trustee and president of the board of the Founders' Trust.
Bill is survived by this wife of 65 years, Carol Johnston Watson. He leaves a daughter, Martha Watson Ewalt (John) of Maineville, Ohio; and a son, Mark Allen Watson (Beverly) of Parkersburg. He leaves four grandchildren, Sara Ewalt of Seattle, Wash., Mark Ewalt of Dayton, Ohio, and Christopher Watson and Matthew Watson, both of Alexandria, Va.
A memorial service will be held Jan. 24 at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Parkersburg. The family will receive guests in the Harris Room of the church following the service.
He was a member of the Human Gift Registry of WVU Medical School in Morgantown, W.Va. Final resting place will be in Newtown, Pa., at a later date.
